Sten's Album of the Month - March 2021 - Genghis Tron
I had a really hard time deciding which album I was going to pick this month; there were two albums that I thought were really amazing. Because of this I figure I should at least tell you to also go listen to Mirrors by Pupil Slicer. It's an extremely strong debut album.
I couldn't not talk about the return of one of my favourite bands of all time, Genghis Tron! Coming back after a long hiatus, this is their first album in 13 years. Now featuring new members Tony Wolski (The Armed?) on vocals and an actual physical drummer in Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists, Sumac). Is this album awesome? Yes. Is this the same Genghis Tron that went on hiatus? No. Did I expect that after 13 years their personalities and musical tastes would grow? Yes. If you're only looking for Board up the House version 2 then this album might not be for you, but I urge you to give it a few listens anyway. This album still has all the vast soundscapes that Genghis Tron could do previously, but has zero of the spazzy blastbeat parts and practically no screamed vocals. Overall, the album is very chill and easy to listen to.
