Sten's Album of the Month - October 2020 - Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou
Honestly it took me a little while to appreciate Thou. I always really expected to like them, but for some unknown reason I just didn't at first. The more music they put out the more I listened, and eventually they hooked me, and now they're one of my favourites in the sludge scene. Emma Ruth Rundle on the other hand, I've been a huge fan of for quite some time. Her solo music has always been very much in the realm of folk music, but has a very "post-metal inspired" vibe to it, which I've always loved.
Right from when they released the first single from this album (Ancestral Recall) I knew it was going to be amazing, and that it was probably going to be one of my favourite albums of the year. Not only is it my favourite album this year (so far), it's also probably one of my favourite albums of all time. This album is just ridiculously good. Amazing collaborations like this always make me sad that it isn't just a permanent band.
